Big Bad Bison Slot Review

North American animal-themed slots are hardly a rare breed, but Big Time Gaming has taken a distinctly retro approach with Big Bad Bison, delivering an aesthetic that echoes the style of their landmark release, Bonanza Megaways. Whether this is a deliberate design choice or simply a reflection of BTG's largely unchanged interface over the years remains open to debate. The game places a solid cast of animal symbols across a sprawling dynamic Megaways grid, all set against a towering desert mountain backdrop.

It's hard not to wonder whether the Australian developer might have produced something more distinctive by drawing inspiration from their own country's incredible wildlife — after all, kangaroo or Crocodile Dundee-themed slots remain a largely untapped market. Nevertheless, Big Bad Bison brings some worthwhile mechanics to the table:

• Multiplier wilds up to x5 are active across all game stages
• The bonus round centres around upgrading the minimum Megaways level, rewarding players with additional spins as they climb
• A theoretical max win of 67,640x stake sits at the top end of the prize ladder

While that top payout figure is undeniably impressive on paper, greater transparency around the max win hit rate for BTG titles would go a long way in helping players set realistic expectations.

Big Bad Bison Summary

Even on first impressions, Big Bad Bison feels somewhat underwhelming for a studio of Big Time Gaming's calibre. The static backdrop carries an oddly dated quality, and the glossy royal symbols feel lifted straight from the Bonanza Megaways era — a visual shorthand that's well past its prime. BTG's core aesthetic, user interface, and overall presentation are long overdue for a meaningful overhaul, and the absence of a turbo spins feature is a notable omission in today's market.

On a more positive note, the soundtrack is genuinely enjoyable — particularly the atmospheric Ghost Riders In The Sky instrumental that kicks in during the bonus round, adding real atmosphere to the free spins experience.

Here's a quick breakdown of what to expect from the bonus features:

• Multiplier wilds appear in all game stages but can be infrequent, and the x1 multiplier outcome is frustratingly common
• The bonus buy is priced at 50x your stake, which gives a reasonable indication of the average bonus round value
• A theoretical max win of 67,640x stake is possible, though achieving it requires climbing close to the top of the minimum win ways ladder — no easy feat
• Progressing through the Megaways upgrade system is genuinely challenging, and meaningful damage to the paytable likely requires near-maximum ladder progression

Overall, Big Bad Bison is a slot that plays it safe within a well-worn formula, delivering familiar BTG mechanics without pushing the format in any exciting new direction.
